How I Stay Motivated + Inspired to Blog

Welcome to the new Pick My Brain series! I truly love being a resource for people, and feel grateful for the opportunity to share the things that I’ve learned and that I love. I wish I could sit down for a cup of tea with every person that asks to pick my brain, but there just aren’t enough hours in the week! So every so often, I’ll ask for your “pick my brain” questions over on Instagram and answer them here. It’s a great way for me to serve you as a resource, and hopefully help more people at the same time! Here’s one of our recent questions: How do…

    The Productivity Tool Kit

FRIENDS! Tell me if any of these sound familiar. “Feeling overwhelmed makes me less productive. If there’s too much on my plate I don’t even know where to start and my head just kind of explodes.” “I’m a perfectionist, and if I don’t think I’m ready to do something perfectly, I just don’t do it at all. But then I feel bad for not doing it.” “I’m a stay at home mom and I don’t even know some days WHAT I should try to get done. Do I have to be productive?” “My biggest issue is prioritizing things. There’s just not enough time to have a clean house, eat well,…

    Free Instagram Story Templates

A few weeks back I wrote some of my thoughts about Instagram and the whole “dreaded algorithm” thing. I always say that if Instagram and I had a relationship status, it would be “it’s complicated,” because it can inspire a real love-hate mentality. On the one hand, it’s such an incredible creative tool and a beautiful way to share the things that truly inspire you. On the other hand (and mainly from a business perspective), it’s beyond frustrating that you can’t actually reach all of the people who follow you because of the way that the algorithm displays images. So lately I’ve been trying to shed any frustration with it…

Taking Risks // How Do You Know When to Leap?

Once upon a time, I was a high school teacher. I had dutifully graduated from high school, gone straight to college, gotten my degree and teaching credential on a fast track, and gone straight back to the high school from which I had graduated to be the choir teacher. I (and everyone else) kind of thought that this was my path, I was going to be here forever. Then, after a few years, I realized it was just something that I wasn’t going to be able to sustain. There were about a zillion reasons that I could list out for you, but that’s not the point of this post. The…

    On Starting Before You’re Ready

Did I ever tell you Maggie’s birth story? Bet that’s not what you were expecting today, huh? But it kind of seems appropriate. When I was in labor with Maggie, I was playing it super cool. Henry took forever so I thought I had all the time in the world. I can remember casually putting my makeup on at home, wincing through contractions, as my sister watched me and was like, “Ummm… you should probably go to the hospital now.” And I was like, “Nah I’m cool.” We eventually got to the hospital and got admitted. My plan was to have an epidural and all the pain meds just like we…

Time Management Tricks for Working From Home

I’ve shared quite a bit here before about our schedule when it comes to working from home (especially with kids), but I’ve never really gotten into the nitty gritty of time management. This is one of the things I get asked about most often — how we manage to actually get things done while working from home. Honestly, working from home can sound like a dream if you hate offices, but it takes a ton of discipline and a lot of cultivating to really get to a place where you’re productive. Wanna know a secret? We’ve got something in the works for later this year that really digs deep into…
